i’ve always found your blog posts to be highly relatable. i’m also an adult with ocd and autism. and apparently osdd. homeschooled then online schooled for my whole life, oh yeah and in fucking america. it’s really rough.
i read your latest post and the one before it and i felt really seen about the dental issues. i’ve had fillings in all 4 quadrants of my mouth and it cost $2k+. never a root canal, although i’ve come close. living with stained teeth is really embarrassing, and having to smile with my mouth closed in every picture makes me feel like shit. even now, i still don’t take care of them well.
i also felt like being homeschooled fucked me up. if i wasn’t autistic it probably wouldn’t’ve been so bad, but i have basically no routine installed in me. i barely brush my teeth, consistently forget to shower, and rarely remember to cook meals or plan them. it feels awful because as an adult i should be able to do this??? but it seems to slip my mind constantly.
it’s weird. i forget that i’m mentally ill sometimes lol, or rather don’t acknowledge it, even though it heavily impacts me. i think it’s hard to really grasp, because i don’t like being mentally ill (who does?), and just want to be like everyone else. ocd especially is extremely hard to live with, so just know that i get it. reading your entries are like looking into my own life.
you aren’t alone, and i wish you the best.
